Time of Chaos Map Editor 2_0
by Mark Doughty
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Introduction
────────────
This is the second version of the ToC Map Editor. I have found no bugs from my
testing so far, but if some problems occur, contact Brain Cain (author of ToC)
at The iCE! Dimension (214-641-7805). He will get in touch with me.
How to Use/Install
──────────────────
The ToC Map Editor uses 50 line mode to view the map. Otherwise, the maps
would NOT fit on the screen, making it difficult to edit correctly (and see
needed info at the bottom). This may be a problem for some ToC SysOps.
The editor must be placed in your ToC Map directory and run from there. For
easier use, just make a BAT file in your main ToC directory that will change to
the map directory, run mapedit.exe, and return to your ToC directory.
Current Applications/Improvements
─────────────────────────────────
The ToC Map Editor will now edit all maps. You can easily change any map to
look completely different than expected. A double star (**) means a location
cannot be edited. This is used in the main ToC program for various entrances
and exits to different areas (ex : On the Castle map, double stars would be
placed where the drawbridge would be.) On planet maps, besides Earth, a wall
may not be placed at the location of 7, 7. This is where an interplanetary
transporter sends you, and you would immediately be killed if you COULD place
one there. You can, however, place landscapes, floors, decorations, and all
OTHER land types on 7, 7. The Installation (Map Number 11) could not fit in the
amount of space on the screen. Therefore, the map scrolls, but should cause
no problems.
You may use the arrow keys to move the brackets around, and also the Home, End,
Page Up, and Page Down keys.
Future Plans
────────────
There should be no need for future versions. This SHOULD be the last
one, and if any other versions were released, it would just be for bug fixes.
Hopefully, the ToC Map Editor will make your ToC game more exiting and attract
more players. Have fun!
